My father died a couple of years ago of Alzheimers disease. He spent time sweeping the driveway and looking out for the delivery of the Christchurch newspaper. Some days he'd think he was on a ship - or in another guise from his past. Other days he was quite lucid and would quote Omar Khayam. My mum, Mary, kissed him every day.
